Sarah Shaw had a successful career as a manager in retail business. But she came to a point when she could no longer keep up appearances, by controlling her tormented inner world. So damaged was she by the consequences of childhood abuse, that she was put on a lifetime’s incapacity benefit with her consultant psychiatrist at a loss how to help. This story is an extraordinary testimony to the triumph of God’s healing love.

The author writes:
“So many abused, hurting people don’t understand their brokenness. They are stuck, as I was, in the tormenting symptoms of guilt, self-hatred, multiple fears, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, eating disorders, self-harming and suicidal tendencies. The book gives insights into the Christian healing ministry I received and offers hope to victims of abuse, without negating the reality of the desperate inner conflicts and struggles.”

This book has been supported and verified by the psychiatrist that was treating Sarah. It is an amazing story of Dissociative Identity Disorder that was healed through prayer ministry. Sarah was a psychiatric in-patient for many months, making no progress but her psychiatrist agreed to her attending a Healing Retreat at Ellel Grange under certain conditions. She was to take a carer, and also if she returned no better, she would be sectioned and treated with Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT).

The book describes Sarah’s depression, overdose, obsessions and anxiety stemming from her childhood experiences in a home that offered no love or nurture. Sarah did not realise why she was experiencing severe illness as her mind had dissociated from it but the different identities clearly made themselves known during her journey to healing. There was a serious effect on her marriage but her husband had great compassion and offered limitless support during her illness and recovery.

There are illustrations, which demonstrate some of the processes Sarah went through. But the text unfolds to reveal a step by step and intensive series of Prayer Ministry sessions over a period of years. In addition to prayer, Sarah cites how scripture brought release and also the use of creative activities. She also tells of how the prayer team ‘taught’ her to enjoy ordinary things like taking a walk and socialising with other people.

Books can never give in depth details of either the horrors or joys of people’s experiences but this is certainly a remarkable and encouraging telling of what God has done. The psychiatric treatment (ECT) was never needed. Dr Searle has seen Sarah and describes her healing as a “true recovery.” The thanks truly belong to God!

  1. FREE TO BE ME (verified owner)

Sarah’s book has taught me a lot about who God really is and how much He really can do in broken lives. The story is written very well, with honesty as well as dignity and brings all the honour to Jesus. I have been encouraged by reading it and have drawn closer to God myself because of it. Beyond any doubt it will bring much hope to every Christian who reads it, in particular those who are struggling themselves due to childhood experiences.

The book is excellent. Here’s to the ministry of Ellel UK (Peter and Fiona Horrobin), and to a very, very special woman, Sarah. I gained MUCH hope for the healing of very deep physical/soulish wounds and entanglements.

  3. Ann (verified owner)

This is an amazing book. I was blessed to read how Sarah’s dysfunctional life was touched and changed by God’s great love. The steps Sarah took in her healing process were clearly explained. This book will give many struggling in despair, a real hope for a new future. God is able and this book shows how He can and will bring new life to hopeless situations

God is patient with us and never gives up on us. I recommend it to the broken heart, many that are struggling with the past.

I loved this book. You can guess that she went through some terrible things, and she mentions some, but not in detail. The point of the book is to show the consequences of childhood abuse, and to show how to get healing. I thought it was very sensitively and intelligently written. I never went through anything like this, but it helps me to begin to relate. I would recommend it to anyone who has been through abuse, and to those who are trying to help people like this.

This book demonstrates than we humans have the potential for healing all our ailments. While the Author of “Sarah” implies the healing came through “Jesus” – I contend that it came as a result of the dedication and good intention of the team and the trust that developed between them and the young woman.

  20. Miss B. (verified owner)

This is not a ‘light read’ but it is an amazing story of how the author has recovered over a period of years from horrific abuse throughout her childhood. Clearly there were many struggles along the way but it shows that with the right support, and a strong faith in God’s power to heal and restore, that there is hope of recovery. A really inspiring book, thoroughly recommended.

Sometimes you pick up a book that changes your life! This has to be one of the best books I have ever read. A must read for everyone!!!!!

  24. Angela Kovacs (verified owner)

Wow! The depth of a human soul and the damage that the enemy can cause are really shocking. But even more shockingly amazing in God’s unfathomable wisdom in how to draw someone out of the pit of dispair. While reading I’ve learned some eternal truths about our awsome God and His unfailing love for His creation. No doubt about it – He is the best doctor ever!
I’ve read it in a few hours, it was not possible to put it down.

At times you can think you are all alone in your situation. This book provides a lot of comfort when you realise how much love you can receive to bring change into your life.
