Description

Many Christians find that there is a gap between what the Bible has to say about freedom and their experience. In this book, Tom Marshall emphasizes that the Gospel is for the whole person: spirit, soul and body. Biblical truth must be applied in all these areas. This excellent book brings understanding to the functions of our spirit and soul. It teaches how our will, emotions, and thinking can be healed by God. Then we become free to experience the fullness of life in the Holy Spirit which God intends for all believers. We then become the person God intends us to be.

About Author

Tom Marshall travelled extensively as a Bible teacher. In addition to being an author, he was in great demand as a speaker at Bible Conventions, Conferences and Business Seminars. He died in 1993 but his ministry lives on through his books and the media.

He and his wife were foundation members of the Wainuiomata Baptist Church. In the early 1960s he became involved in the Charismatic Renewal movement in New Zealand and left the Baptist Church to form a house church. He was subsequently invited to speak at both charismatic and mainstream Christian churches in New Zealand. In the 1970s he moved to the Kapiti Coast north of Wellington and was instrumental in forming the Kapiti Christian Centre. He was the founding editor of The Shaker magazine (later renamed Today's Christian). In the 1980s he spoke at many overseas conventions and was involved in the ministry of Youth with a Mission.

Tom Marshall explained all that Christ accomplished on the cross in a practical, clear way. God used Living in the Freedom of the Spirit to change my life. I was not raised in the church and did not understand the significance of Christ's death and resurrection. I have not been the same since I learned what Jesus did for me and how to apply it to my life. No other book has impacted my life except the Bible as significantly as this one.

Of the books I've read about Christianity, how to interpret the gospels and how to apply it's principles to our life, this is by far the best. There are many books that tell us God is the answer to our problems, that we need to study, trust and believe, which is certainly all to the good. But this book does all that and more. "Living in the Freedom of the Spirit" is a working book. It digs deep, recognizing that the mind is where we begin to find the spirit of God. It forces us to recognize the how, why, and when we developed out belief system, and how those factors have impacted our understanding of the world and our place in it. Once we realize that, we can open our lives to spiritual truths and an understanding of God's invitation to life lived fully and freely in His grace. This is not done just through words, but through illustrations and interactive exercises which truly engage the reader and lead them to a deeper understanding of how to become that person God made us to be.

I was assigned to read this book in a healing class at my church, but the book is out of print, so I had to use a photocopy of it (with permission of course!). I had no idea what I was in for when I started reading it, but it was so good, and so informative, and so helpful, that I just knew I had to have my own copy. So I looked on Amazon.com and I found a “used” book for $32! I have never paid that much for a used book before, but it was that good. I was so happy to find that I could get a copy at all!
Books Squared not only got the book to me by the time they said they would, but it was “way” sooner than I ever expected! Also, I could not believe what good a quality the book was in, especially when they described as “used – good”. It didn’t look used at all! Thank you Books Squared and thank you Amazon! Another order delivered to satisfaction.

I had to buy a second copy, because my first was so well used it eventually dropped apart. It is a beautifully clear exposition of how to apply bible truth to really benefit regular modern living. I later heard Tom Marshall lecture and found in him those qualities of kindness, intelligence and integrity you find in the book.

Tom Marshall’s book Living in the Freedom of the Spirit has the best insight into the human spirit that I have ever seen. This is an extraordinary book that is, unfortunately, difficult to find as it is out of print.

I have been leading a healing ministry in churches for 20 years. We use this book for our text book in each class we do. I have heard comments from every class about how much believers have learned from Tom Marshall’s book. I have had many testify that it is the best book on Christianity they have ever read. One man told me he had been a Christian for 40 years and he had learned more in the last 2 months than he had in 40 years of church life. Largely from this book.
I have individuals delivered from things from their past just by reading the book. The leaders in our ministry comment how every time they help with a class they learn something new each time they read through this book.
This or any book Tom has written are filled with wisdom and truths that will change lives. I also use his book “Right Relationships” for another class. For a training class I use Tom’s book “Healing from the inside out”. One could disciple a church from Tom Marshall’s books.
